The short version: your deck lives in your browser. When you look up a word, only that word is sent to public dictionary and translation services. There's no account, no analytics and no WordBridge server.
1. Who We Are
WordBridge is developed and published by DahVio Studios, an independent software studio based in Long Beach, California. You can reach us at hello@dahvio.com.
2. What WordBridge Sends Off Your Device
When you choose Define with WordBridge or Save to WordBridge, the extension sends the word or phrase you selected to:
- Free Dictionary API (dictionaryapi.dev) and Wiktionary (wiktionary.org), for the definition and pronunciation
- MyMemory (mymemory.translated.net), for the translation, along with your chosen language pair (for example, English to Spanish)
That's all that's sent. The sentence around the word, the page you're reading, its address and your saved deck are never transmitted. These services receive the request the way any website does, so they can see your IP address. Their own privacy policies cover how they handle it.
3. What Stays on Your Device
Stored locally with chrome.storage.local and never transmitted:
- Your deck: each saved word with its definition, pronunciation, translation, the sentence it came from, the page title and address, and the date saved
- Your native-language setting
- Small counters used to decide when to ask for a review, and whether you've already answered
You can delete your whole deck at any time with the Clear button in WordBridge. Removing the extension deletes everything. Export saves your deck as a JSON file on your computer, and nothing is uploaded.
4. Pronunciation
Read-aloud uses your browser's built-in speech (the Web Speech API). WordBridge doesn't send the audio anywhere itself. Some voices supplied by your browser or operating system are processed online by that provider, and their policy applies to those voices.
5. Page Access
WordBridge runs on the pages you visit so it can read the word you selected and the sentence around it at the moment you define or save it. It doesn't read, record or send anything from a page otherwise.
6. What WordBridge Does Not Do
- No account, sign-in, name or email address
- No analytics, telemetry, advertising or third-party trackers
- No browsing history collection
- No selling or sharing of data. The only outside requests are the dictionary and translation lookups described above.
7. Children's Privacy
WordBridge doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children. Students of any age can use it without an account.
8. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change, and the new version will be published on this page, which is linked from WordBridge's Chrome Web Store listing.
