Getting started
Start with a season. A season is one species, one place, one year — California Deer, 2026 — and everything else hangs off it: the tag, the license that covers it, the dates it runs, the regulations, and the people hunting it.
Once a season exists, open it and fill in whatever you have. Nothing is required up front, and a season with no dates yet simply counts as upcoming.
Why does my license only need entering once?
Licenses, tags, permits and validations are stored as their own records and pointed at every season they cover. One state hunting license can cover deer, turkey, upland and waterfowl without being typed four times. Add it from any season, and link it to the others from theirs.
Season dates and reminders
Add dates from the season's Add Dates action. Each window has its own method and its own opener and closer, so archery in July and general rifle in September live side by side.
With reminders switched on in Settings, the app schedules a nudge a week and a day before each opener, on the last day of a season, 30 and 7 days before a license expires, 30, 7 and 1 days before a draw deadline, and two weeks before an opener if you have not read the regulations.
Regulations
Each season can hold links to the agency's own regulation pages, along with your notes and the date you last read them. Tapping one opens the agency's site. Swipe a link to mark it reviewed.
The app deliberately does not store or interpret regulations. It remembers where they are and when you last looked. Always verify with the agency before you hunt.
Draws and preference points
Open a season and use Add Draw. Record the status, when applications open, the deadline, the results date and how many points you hold. Deadlines appear on Today and fire reminders. Once you mark the tag purchased, the deadline reminders stop.
Trips and who is ready
Plan a trip from the Family tab, say who is going, then open it and link the seasons the trip is for. The app checks each person against the trip's own dates, so a license that lapses the day before you leave shows up as a problem now rather than in a parking lot later.
If it says "Nothing to check yet", the trip has no seasons linked — there is nothing to check against.
Photographs
Add photos to a journal entry or a harvest. They are copied into the app's own storage, so clearing your photo library later will not empty your records. A harvest photograph also becomes the cover of that year's Season Recap unless you choose a different one.
Backing up and moving to a new phone
Your records are part of your iPhone's normal encrypted backup, so restoring a new phone from backup brings them along. For a copy you can hold yourself, use Settings › Your Data › Export, which writes everything to a file you can save anywhere. Import reads one back — it replaces what is on the device, and it warns you before it does.
Subscriptions and billing
Free includes an unlimited journal, unlimited photos, reminders, regulation links and three active licenses, tags or permits. Outdoorsman ($19.99/year) removes the credential limit and adds draws, preference points, calendar sync and recap export. Family ($34.99/year) adds up to six people and trip readiness.
Subscriptions are billed by Apple and renew annually until cancelled. Manage or cancel them in the Settings app under your Apple Account — we cannot cancel a subscription for you, and Apple handles all refunds. If you have paid on another device, use Restore Purchases in Settings.
Cancelling never deletes anything. Your journal, harvests, photos and history stay readable, and Export works on every tier.
Something is wrong
If reminders are not arriving, check that notifications are allowed for the app in the iOS Settings app, then confirm reminders are switched on in the app's own Settings, where it also shows how many are currently scheduled. iOS keeps a maximum of 64 pending reminders per app, so the app schedules the soonest ones first.
If calendar events are missing, confirm calendar access is allowed and that a calendar named "Hunting Seasons" exists. Turning the toggle off and on rebuilds it from your records.
Requesting a feature
Genuinely welcome. Some things are deliberately out of scope — maps, GPS tracking, weather, solunar tables, draw-odds calculation, an automatic regulations database, and anything resembling a social feed. Everything else is fair game, and several things in the app started as an email.
