The short version: EchoPost only sends data when you click Rewrite for Google. Your caption, tone, optional business note and a random install ID go to the EchoPost rewrite service and OpenAI to write your post. There's no account, no analytics, and the service doesn't store your captions.
1. Who We Are
EchoPost is developed and published by DahVio Studios, an independent software studio based in Long Beach, California. You can reach us at hello@dahvio.com.
2. What EchoPost Sends Off Your Device
When you click Rewrite for Google, the extension sends the following to the EchoPost rewrite service (a serverless function operated by DahVio Studios), and from there to OpenAI, which generates the rewrite:
- The caption text you pasted
- The tone you selected
- The optional "business context" note, if you filled it in
- A random, anonymous install ID (a UUID generated in your browser)
That's the only time EchoPost transmits anything. The install ID is used only to count your free monthly rewrites. It isn't tied to your name, email, Google account, Instagram account or IP-based identity, because EchoPost never asks for any of those.
3. What Stays on Your Device
Stored locally with chrome.storage.local and never transmitted:
- Your recent rewrites (title, body, post type and call-to-action button): the History list
- Your "business context" note
- The anonymous install ID
You can clear your History at any time from the History screen. Removing the extension deletes all of it.
4. What EchoPost Does Not Do
- No account, sign-in, name or email address
- No analytics, telemetry, advertising or third-party trackers
- No selling or sharing of data with anyone other than the OpenAI API call described above
- No access to your Instagram or Google Business Profile account. The extension will ask for permission on those sites only if a future feature needs it, and only at the moment you use that feature.
5. Server Logs
The rewrite service has no database and doesn't store the captions it processes. When something fails, temporary error logs may briefly capture request details. These aren't retained or used for any other purpose.
6. OpenAI
Caption text is processed by OpenAI's API to produce the rewrite. Under OpenAI's API data usage policy, API inputs and outputs are not used to train their models. See OpenAI's policies.
7. Children's Privacy
EchoPost is a tool for businesses and is not directed to children under 13.
8. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change, and the new version will be published on this page, which is linked from EchoPost's Chrome Web Store listing.
