Burnbook Privacy Policy

Burnbook is built around a simple promise: your private thoughts stay on your device. This policy explains what the app stores locally, what it never collects, and how purchases and biometrics are handled.

Effective: May 17, 2026

The short version: Burnbook does not require an account, does not sync your entries to DahVio servers, and does not collect analytics about what you write, keep, lock, or burn. Your entries stay on your device.

1. Who We Are

Burnbook is developed and published by DahVio Studios, an independent software studio based in Long Beach, California, operated by Ray (ray@dahvio.com).

2. Data Stored on Your Device

Burnbook stores app data locally on your device so your entries and preferences persist between sessions.

This may include:

  • Journal entries you write or keep
  • Voice note file references attached to entries
  • Locked-entry status and timed burn settings
  • Theme, font, haptics, sound, and app-lock preferences
  • Local burn-count information for the free tier

This data is stored locally on your device only. It is not uploaded to DahVio servers, tied to a DahVio account, or used to build a behavioral profile.

3. Encryption and Local Storage

Burnbook is designed to keep entries private on-device. Entries are stored locally, and the app uses on-device storage and security controls rather than a remote journal backend.

There is no Burnbook web account, no browser dashboard for your journal, and no DahVio database containing your entries.

4. Biometric Authentication

If you enable Face ID, Touch ID, or another biometric lock method, authentication is handled by your device operating system.

  • Burnbook does not receive or store your biometric data
  • The app only receives confirmation that the device authenticated you
  • Biometric support is optional and controlled by your device settings and app preferences

5. Voice Notes and Microphone Access

If you record a voice note, Burnbook requests microphone permission so it can create and save that note on your device.

DahVio Studios does not receive the audio file, transcription, or metadata about what you said.

6. No Account Required. No Cloud Sync.

Burnbook has no sign-in flow and no cloud account required to use the app. Your writing is not synced to DahVio servers, and there is no remote archive for us to inspect or restore.

7. Analytics, Ads, and Tracking

Burnbook does not use your entries for analytics, advertising, behavioral profiling, or third-party targeting. DahVio Studios does not receive a log of what you wrote, what prompts you used, or how many entries you burned.

8. In-App Purchases

If you buy Burnbook Premium, the transaction is handled by Apple through the App Store.

  • DahVio Studios does not receive your payment card details
  • Apple confirms whether your purchase or restore was successful
  • Premium status is used locally by the app to unlock features

9. When You Delete the App

Because Burnbook stores your journal locally on your device, deleting the app removes the locally stored data associated with it.

DahVio Studios does not retain a server-side copy of your entries to restore later.

10. Children's Privacy

Burnbook is a general-use journaling app. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and it does not require personal information from users in order to function.

11. Apple's Data Practices

While Burnbook itself is designed to keep your data on-device, Apple may collect certain information as part of normal iOS and App Store operations. For more information about Apple's own practices, please review Apple's Privacy Policy.

12. Changes to This Policy

If Burnbook's privacy or data handling practices ever change in a meaningful way, this policy will be updated with a new effective date.
