The short version: placards, UN numbers, the glossary, quick reference, your starred items, and your Identify history all live only on your device. The Identify feature sends the text of a query to our server only when it can't be answered offline, so it can generate a result — that text isn't linked to your identity and isn't stored by us afterward.
1. Who We Are
HazMat Pro is developed and published by DahVio Studios, a solo developer studio based in Long Beach, California, operated by Ray (support@dahvio.com).
2. Data Stored Only On Your Device
The app saves the following to your device's local storage using iOS's standard UserDefaults system:
- UN numbers you've starred for quick access
- Your recent Identify results (up to the last 20), so you can revisit them without a network call
This data never leaves your device, is not accessible to DahVio Studios or any third party, and can be cleared at any time from the app's history "Clear" action or by deleting the app.
3. The Identify Feature
Identify lets you speak or type a description, a UN number, or a material name. The app first checks its own offline UN-number database — exact UN numbers and known shipping names resolve instantly with no network request at all.
Only when a query isn't found locally (a free-text description, an unfamiliar name) does the app send that query's text to our server at dahvio.com, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API to generate an identification. We do not attach your name, device ID, location, or any other identifier to that request, and we do not log or retain the query text after the response is generated — it exists only for the length of that single request.
4. Voice Input
When you use "hold to speak," your voice is converted to text using Apple's built-in speech recognition (iOS's on-device/Siri speech framework), governed by Apple's own privacy policy. DahVio Studios never receives raw audio — only the transcribed text, and only after you finish speaking.
5. Data We Do Not Collect
- Personal identifiers (name, email, phone, address)
- Location data
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Usage analytics or behavioral tracking
- Crash reports or diagnostics
- Accounts or sign-in of any kind
The app includes no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs — no Google, Facebook, Firebase, or similar frameworks.
6. App Store Review Prompt
The app uses Apple's native in-app review API (StoreKit) to occasionally ask satisfied users to rate the app in the App Store. This prompt is shown at most once per app install and is triggered only after meaningful, successful use. No review data or responses are transmitted to DahVio Studios — Apple handles all review collection directly.
7. Children's Privacy
HazMat Pro is a professional reference tool for hazmat handling, transport, and response. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13. Refer to the app's official App Store age rating for details on its content rating.
8. App Store Data Practices
While DahVio Studios itself collects no personal data, Apple may collect certain app usage data as part of normal App Store operations. Please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for details on their data practices.
9. Changes to This Policy
If our data practices ever change — for example, if a future feature needs to store or transmit additional information — this policy will be updated with a new effective date and noted in the app's release notes.
