DAFMAN 36-2905, explained

DAFMAN 36-2905 is the Department of the Air Force Physical Fitness Program manual. It replaced AFI 36-2905 and is the single source for the Air Force and Space Force fitness assessment — the components, the exercise options, the composite scoring charts, the age groups, and the rules. This page is a plain-language summary.

Three scored components, one composite

ComponentOptionsComposite weight

Passing, Excellent, and the component minimums

Excellent

Composite 90.0 or higher, with every component minimum met.

Satisfactory

Composite 75.0 to 89.9, with every component minimum met. This is the passing band.

Unsatisfactory

Composite below 75.0, or any single component below its minimum score.

Component minimums

Each component has a floor. Clearing the composite but missing one floor is still an Unsatisfactory.

Age groups run in five-year bands (under 25, 25–29, 30–34, and so on). Aerobic standards at higher-elevation installations use the altitude-adjusted tables.

Rules beyond the score

From the charts to a composite

The manual carries a separate chart for each exercise, each age group, and each sex. The calculator applies them for you — enter your run or HAMR, your push-ups, and your core exercise, and see the composite and category instantly.
